Painting Scheme — Mordor Troll

Hello there,

I wish to apologise for the lack of pictures in this scheme, I painted the troll before my tripod arrived and as I can’t hold my camera steady for the 3–6 seconds I need for a decent exposure¹. Anyway onto the scheme — I will give the actual paints I used but reccomend the Dakka Dakka conversion chart².

Here is the troll-

Fancy painting him? Yes, good carry on and all shall be revealed³

  • Undercoat in Citadel grey seer rattle can — very light grey base coat⁴.
  • Paint the skin in Vallejo brown sand.
  • Paint the metal areas in black.
  • Paint leather — straps across the trolls back and belt — in Vallejo flat brown.
  • Paint cloth — essentially the troll’s loin cloth — in Vallejo flat brown mixed with Vallejo buff (around a 1 : 1 ratio — although adjust it so it looks good to you. If in doubt push towards a lighter colour).
  • Paint metal areas in Army Painter gun metal.
  • Wash skin, leather and cloth in Citadel agrax earthshade — skin may need 2 coats depending on how dark you want your troll.
  • Wash metal in Vallejo Game Wash black wash.
  • Could leave the troll here it looks pretty good — or continue below for some drybrushing.
  • Dry brush the metal with Army Painter gun metal.
  • Dry brush the skin with Vallejo brown sand — focus on the boils, spotty bumpy things.

1-I apologise for my failings.

3- Disclaimer I do not in fact know everything, therefore I can not reveal it. I can however answer many questions on Fawlty Towers.

4- Could go lighter to a white — personally I wouldn’t go darker as it is a pain to get the skin colour over it.

Painting models so they look decent at arms length — I do what I say on the tin, at least I would if I lived in a tin.
