News And Other Things I’ve Read — 2021.04.04

Warhammer 40K — Sisters Of Battle Dogmata

It’s the end of new model monday, and we have been given the Sisters of Battle chaplain — I mean Dogmata. I’m not a fan¹. She seems far too static and rather wide. Compared to a normal sister she is probably normal width but the robe down the middle just makes her too square. And the top robes as well, Kirioth put it best when he sais she looks like a Christmas tree, with the double triangle effect. Also there is something wrong with the face, it just her eyebrows are really slanted as if she should be angry. The mouth however just doesn’t really line up, she is either half pouting or sucking on an invisible lollipop.

A swing and a miss for me — even if that will get me put in a mortifier (see below) or into the repentia.

Mortifier — Looks better than the Dogmata. Although looks a bit chaosy (or chaosee), I think its the black.

Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game — Love For The Dwarves it’s Dain Ironfoot

Dain — On The Left — is no spring chicken or indeed spring dwarf. Thorin III Stonehelm on the other hand is much more energetic.

2 lovely dwarven sculpts — Dain looks every inch² the commander standing on a hill observing his dwarven legions. While Thorin III is getting stuck in — hello orc take a warhammer to the face.

Not only do I like the models, it is nice to see the Lord Of The Rings Strategy game getting some love. Although I’m less sure about the red axe head — maybe a red gold could work. Especially as it is possible that this is the beginning of an Erebor / Dain expansion.

Modiphius Fallout RPG

The Fallout RPG is nearly here — not the wasteland warfare (tabletop wargame) pretending to be an RPG but a real 2d20 RPG system. I have a friend that won’t stop going on about this especially as you can get access to the pdf now if you buy (well pre order) the rulebook. I have played the dishonoured 2d20 system by Modiphius and it’s pretty good. I’m still a D&D fan but if you want a fallout game you could definitely do a lot worse.

Painting Skintone Resource

I’ve always struggled to paint skin. For white skin I usually use Vallejo’s basic skin tone or Vallejo tan, followed by a flesh wash. But this seems like a much better way of doing it — even if I do need to buy some more paints. Aargh!

There is even a singing and playing an accordian what more could you want.

Why am I always a sucker for slightly abnormal models? Do I have any interest in Soviet models? Not really. Am I fan of metal models? Not if I can get them in plastic. Then why am I interested in these — because they are slightly quirky. I can’t vouch for the quality of the models yet — but maybe in the future I will be able to. Also Bad Squiddo do a pretty nice range of female miniatures.

See the above soviet section. Slightly niche models that still interest me and tempt me to start another collection. ot a big one but a couple of strange ones.

I probably don’t need to say that I’m a big Games Workshop fan as my favourite miniature wargames- you (being the intelligent folks you are) probably worked that out from the fact that the GW news takes up the biggest section of this article every week.
